Chapter 847 Mrs. Wright slowly opened her tired eyes and weakly looked at Brayden, "Sylvia... Sylvia... Monica, Monica..." Her gaze had almost no focus, and she reached out with limp hands to tightly grasp Brayden's hand. She murmured softly, "Monica... you're Monica's..." "My Monica..." Brayden was startled, "Mom, mom what's wrong? Who is your Monica?" His heart suddenly tightened. Could it be that his mom had some romantic history before? Did she have a child out of wedlock? Or did he not know that his mom had another child before him? Maybe it was an older sister who died young.
Countless terrible and tragic thoughts flashed through Brayden's mind.
He couldn't help but imagine dozens of episodes of melotic TV s.
He even started to feel a little relieved that dad wasn't here ... if there really was some secret burden on Mom's shoulders, Dad would be so sad after being in love with Mom for a lifetime ...
Fortunately it was him who heard this and not Dad.
Just as he let out a sigh of relief and his heart hadn't fully calmed down yet - what did he hear next? "Monica, | miss you so much." Jenna also froze,"Godmother, who is Monica?" Mrs. Wright gradually regained consciousness while feeling dizzy. She stared at the ceiling above her head for quite some time before finally recovering herself.
She felt sore all over her body and her stomach churned uncomfortably; the discomfort almost made her nauseous but she held back.
Her headache throbbed painfully as she lifted up her heavy arm to gently press on the spot between her eyebrows.
Seeing Mrs. Wright's painful expression, Brayden quickly reached over to help massage the spot between her eyebrows, "Mom, do you have a headache?" "Mmm..." Mrs. Wright sighed comfortably,"My whole body feels uncomfortable." Hearing Mrs. Wright's response, Brayden confirmed that his mother was truly awake now. He cautiously glanced at her, "Mom, you were calling out for someone named Monica earlier. What happened?" "Monica..." Mrs. Wright's heart clenched painfully; the sensation surged through like a tornado once again. "She used to be my best friend.” Her eyes were red-rimmed, and tears slowly slid down from them into strands of hair along the sides of face.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Godmother, why are you crying?" Jenna looked at Mrs. Wright's haggard and weak face with concern. "If you want to see her, | can help you call her and ask her to come visit you." "It's impossible..." Mrs. Wright cried silently, tears streaming down her face like broken beads. "It's too late... I'm so bad for forgetting Monica." She remembered everything now.
She remembered the beautiful memories, and the moment when Monica died - it made her heart ache almost spasmodically.
"Monica..." She was so young and full of life - how could she have died? Mrs. Wright sobbed softly, more heart-wrenching than wailing.
Brayden was stunned after hearing what she said.
Mother's friend? Dead? It turned out that it wasn't just his imagination running wild - he finally understood who Monica was.
But Brayden still felt heavy-hearted about bringing up unpleasant past memories for his mother.
Jenna tenderly grabbed a few tissues to wipe away Mrs. Wright's tears. "Godmother, your main priority is to get better soon! If Monica has an afterlife in heaven, she would definitely want you to recover quickly too! When you're feeling better, we'll go together to pay our respects." Mrs. Wright's eyes lit up as she tightly held onto Jenna's hand with all of her strength. "Jenna, you're right! You're absolutely right! | need to get better quickly so that | can go see Monica." As she spoke, she burst into tears again like a lake bursting its banks once more.
How foolish and stupid must she be if only remembering having had a good friend but forgetting everything else about them for many years? She tried hard but every time ended up with a headache when attempting to recall those memories; eventually giving up altogether.
She cried sadly for quite some time until finally falling asleep in exhaustion while Jenna tucked in Mrs. Wright under the covers.
Snuggling into Brayden's arms, Jenna rested her head on his chest. "Godmother must be very sad." "There is nothing we can do about death,” Brayden hugged Jenna tighter. "Promise me one thing though, Jenna, no matter what happens, don't leave me, okay?" "Definitely!" Jenna narrowed her eyes slightly and smiled innocently. "How could | bear to leave you?" The two of them didn't dare to speak too loudly, afraid of waking up Mrs. Wright.
As they spoke, Jenna unknowingly closed her eyes and fell asleep in the man's arms.
Brayden laid her flat on the sofa and covered her with a thin blanket before sitting next to her, closing his eyes while admiring her peaceful sleeping face.
The next day.
Early in the morning, snowflakes were falling from the sky as Sylvia brewed some soup and made a few small dishes to bring to the hospital.
Franklin sat beside her, looking at the snow outside. "We should also prepare for New Year soon. When Grandpa was still alive, we always had lively celebrations together at our old house." A hint of longing appeared in his eyes as he thought about how they used to make dumplings together at their old home with Sylvia making the filling by hand while Grandpa helped wrap them into little golden ingots.
Sylvia knew what he was thinking just by looking at him so she said, "If you want dumplings tonight, then I'll make some for you. | remember that Grandpa loved eating dumplings so I'll make a bowl just for him." "Okay." Franklin's expression softened as he gazed deeply into Sylvia's eyes.
He couldn't help but reach out and hold onto her hand tightly while speaking.
As they arrived at the hospital room after parking their car outside, Brayden and Jenna were nowhere in sight while Mrs. Wright seemed like she had just woken up from sleep but was struggling to sit up on her own due to weakness caused by illness.
Sylvia walked over quickly with food containers in hand before helping Mrs. Wright sit upright using both hands." Sister-in-law , how are you feeling?" Mrs. Wright felt Sylvia's hands supporting herself which made her body stiffen suddenly.
She looked towards Sylvia who seemed unfamiliar yet familiar somehow.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmHer narrow gaze scrutinized every inch of Sylvia's face carefully as if seeing it for the first time ever. The way she looked was especially strange since it seemed like she had never seen or known who Sylvia really is! This strange reaction made Sylvia feel uneasy inside. Is this because toxins have invaded her brain? Has she become stupid? Is there any sequelae? While these thoughts raced through Sylvia's mind, Mrs. Wright suddenly spoke, "Sylvia... you look so much like your mother." Sylvia was taken aback by Mrs. Wright's revelation. She looked at her with disbelief and asked, "What did you just say, Yvonne?" Mrs. Wright gave a weak smile as if speaking had drained all her energy. "You might not know this yet, but | used to be best friends with your mother Monica and Tiana." Mrs. Wright's face showed a hint of confusion mixed with sadness as she continued, "I can't believe | forgot about your mother for so many years. Tiana must hate me now." Sylvia felt a lump in her throat as she struggled to find the right words to say.
Her relationship with the Wright family and Jenna was complicated, and she already knew about Mrs. Wright being hypnotized from Cody.
But now that Mrs. Wright had regained consciousness? The hypnosis was lifted? "Tiana won't blame you for anything; neither will my mother," Sylvia said softly while trying to hold back tears.
"Sylvia, I'm not a good friend," Mrs. Wright sobbed uncontrollably while shaking her head repeatedly; tears streamed down her cheeks.
She continued saying how much it hurt knowing that Monica was gone forever from this world.
"Please don't blame yourself like this; it wasn't your fault," Sylvia held onto Mrs. Wright's hand tightly while trying to console her.
She didn't dare mention the hypnosis incident fearing that it would trigger some negative emotions in Mrs. Wright leading to an emotional outburst which could be disastrous at this point in time.
Just then Brayden and Jenna returned after freshening up in the public restroom outside their ward when they left earlier; they found out that Mrs. Wright still hadn't woken up yet when they were away earlier on.
They were afraid of waking Mrs. Wright up, if they used the bathroom inside their ward, hence decided against using it, before leaving initially, but never expected such an eerie atmosphere upon returning later on! Brayden got startled by his mom's crying state again once he entered their room. "Mom, why are you crying again?" "Crying is one way of releasing pent-up emotions," Sylvia patted Mrs. Wright's hand gently before continuing, "We can't keep crying all day long though since we need our eyesight intact too! It has been many years since my mother passed away; we should focus on living our lives well instead.” Jenna's wedding preparation also needed Mrs. Wright's attention too! Mrs. Wright nodded and choked out, "You're right. Poor Sylvia, your sister died at such a young age. She was just a child... If she were still alive, she would be the same age as Jenna." Jenna's heart raced when she heard Mrs. Wright's words. For some reason, a terrible thought suddenly came to her mind.
Her sister... In her recovered memories, she had a sister too, even though her sister was also just a little girl at the time.
She suppressed her pounding heart and looked at Sylvia. Could it be true?
