Chapter 227

They arrived at a consensus.

Mandy walked out of Alan’s study.

Alan sipped on his tea and sighed. “I separated two couples in a span of two days.”

“It was necessary with Ms. Sachs, but not with Ms. Jessop.” Having been with Alan for many

called years, Butler Lawrence could naturally understand what was going on in his mind. “Sir, you Ms.

Jessop over just to test her and not to break them up. She was the one who failed to meet your

standards, sir.”

In fact, it had nothing to do with Jessop Corp and her previous scandals.

Alan chuckled. Indeed, Lawrence was right.

Had Cordy and Mandy exchanged positions, things would have turned out different.

When Mandy walked out of the study, she burst right into tears the moment she saw Jay.

Of course, Jay knew what his father had done.

His father had made himself clear that whoever yearned to enter the gates of the Levine household had

to first go through him. Mandy clearly did not make the mark.

In fact, he knew what the outcome would be even before she went into the study.

He did not object to it because that way…things between him and Mandy could finally end.

They started out as a faux couple in the first place anyway, but Mandy was the one who kept asking for

more.

“Come on. I’ll send you back,” Jay pulled Mandy away and led her to the gates of the house.

Mandy stopped in her tracks.

Jay turned around to look at her.

*Jay Parker, did you already know that your father won’t accept me? And you deliberately made me

come here today to embarrass me, right?” Mandy flung his arm away and questioned him.

As dumb as she was, she finally figured things out.

Jay stood silent.

His silence was enough to answer her question.

Smack!

Mandy gave Jay a tight slap across his face.

Overwhelming embarrassment gave way to uncontrollable emotions and the indignance she felt

throughout the day came gushing forth.

Meanwhile, Zoe was smoking a cigarette on the balcony of her own room.

She was not an avid smoker, but she had never been able to resist a couple whenever she felt

frustrated and troubled.

She was just thinking about giving Cordy a call once her mood lifted when she saw the explosive

scene.

She looked on at the two of them fighting, as if she were enjoying a joke.

Of course, she could not make out what they were saying.

Zoe wondered if it was because Mandy could not swallow the slap that she gave her and decided to

return the slap to Jay.

See, how smart of her.

If she were to slap Jay, it might not necessarily teach Mandy a lesson.

But slapping Mandy meant that Jay would be implicated as well, and she would be killing two birds with

one stone.

She had the upper hand this time.

Back at the door, Mandy’s tears flowed. “You could’ve just told me directly if you wanted a break up.

Why must you embarrass me like this?”

“I have told you before. Did you listen?” Jay refuted.

Mandy bit her lip.

Jay had told her many times before that they were just pretending to be a couple. After their popularity

faded, their relationship would become non-existent. She was the one who insisted on taking things

further, finding ways to cling onto him and not let go.

“It’s getting late.” Jay did not want to talk any further.

Rather than saying that he did not want to pursue the matter, it was more accurate to say that his

patience toward her was running thin.

Mandy eventually sat in Jay’s car, and it was eerily quiet inside.

“Can we still be friends in the future?” Mandy suddenly asked.

Jay’s eyes trembled slightly, but he remained silent.

“Your dad said if we break up amicably, we can still be friends,” Mandy looked at Jay and went on.”

Whatever it is, I was always there for you when you needed help. Can’t we be friends just on that

basis?”

“Yes, we can.” Jay nodded. “Feel free to come to me if you need help in the future.”

“I’ll take your word for it.”

“Of course.” Jay promised.

That made Mandy fee! a bit better.
